Wow – the Road is Icy! Preparing for Winter Road Emergencies
Not always can road emergencies be prevented, but their impact can be minimized. Ice is a common winter road hazard for Ontarians. Most people adjust their driving behaviours in icy conditions, but as everyone knows, accidents happen. What should all drivers have in their vehicles to help deal with everything from a minor fender-bender to something more serious?
The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (“FSCO”) suggests that drivers keep a basic emergency kit in their vehicle’s trunk. Drivers do not need to purchase a very expensive emergency kit; all that is needed is a plastic storage container that can hold the following:
Lastly, FSCO also supplies an Accident Worksheet to help drivers track pertinent information in an accident. FSCO suggests that drivers keep this worksheet and a pen in their glove compartment to track information needed when reporting an accident. Please see attached to this article a copy of this Worksheet.
Although very few weather conditions are more beautiful than an ice-covered landscape, none can be more challenging for driver navigation.
