Highway 401 Double Fatality

Auto Accidents

On the afternoon of Saturday May 10, 2014, there was a double fatality on Highway 401 near Chatham.  A tractor-trailer crossed from westbound to eastbound traffic and struck the vehicle of a 13-year-old girl and her uncle, tragically killing both of them.   Police have not yet determined what caused the truck to cross into the oncoming lanes of traffic.  This accident has now caused concerns about the lack of barriers through the centre of Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent, as presently, there is no centre divider, just a small grass dip.  With all of the money already being spent on local road work, we should be looking into spending a portion on adding a line of concrete blocks down the middle to prevent accidents like this.  The same argument could be made for the EC Row Expressway.  To read more about this accident, click on the link below.
