Crash in St. Thomas

Auto Accidents

On Thursday August 21, 2014, there was a serious two-vehicle crash in Elgin County near St. Thomas, at around 7pm.  A 33-year-old woman from Kingsville is in serious condition in the hospital from the crash which was allegedly caused by a teen driver.  The crash occurred at the intersection at Fairview Road and John Wise Line.  A Dodge Durango, driven by a 42-year-old Tecumseh man, along with a 37-year old Kingsville man in the front passenger seat, and the Kingsville woman in the back seat, was heading south on John Wise Line.  A 19-year-old Stratford woman was heading eastbound on Fairview Road in a Toyota Matrix.  The 19-year-old’s Matrix allegedly hit the Durango’s passenger side, which caused both vehicles to be sent into the ditch.  The Tecumseh and Kingsville men in the Durango were taken to the hospital for treatment for their non-life threatening injuries, while the Kingsville woman had to be removed from the wreck and airlifted to a London hospital. She is in serious condition, but not life threatening.  The 19-year-old woman driving the Matrix as well as a 20-year-old female passenger from Springfield had to be extracted from the vehicle and suffered non-life threatening injuries.  The 19-year-old driver, Mahsa Ghassemi, of Stratford, is facing charges after an investigation by the Elgin County OPP.  She is set to appear in court in St. Thomas, facing one count of careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

In Ontario, 579 people died in traffic accidents in 2010 alone. The latest numbers from the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario show that more than 2,500 people were seriously injured in traffic accidents across the province during that time. When another driver is at fault, you may be entitled to compensation far beyond what you might receive in benefits from your standard no-fault insurance. Retaining proper legal advice can be the deciding factor for you in obtaining compensation for your losses and damages.  If you or a family member suffered a personal injury from a car crash, contact the Injury Law group to speak with an experienced Windsor auto accident lawyer.
